Stressed About Your "Diet"?

Being on a diet can be stressful. We’ve all been there; deciding between getting a plate of pulled pork nachos and letting loose, or sticking to your diet and ordering more carefully. Don’t worry, you aren’t the only one struggling with this. Anybody who has ever dieted knows this problem, but the successful dieters will always tell you; go with the nachos!

The biggest issue with dieting is that people are often too concerned with rigidity rather than sustainability. No matter how good Felicia on Instagram says her “fat burning” diet is, if you can’t sustain it, it’s not for you. If your gym partner uses that diet and it works for them, that’s great! But in the end, if you don’t like the diet and it’s not working for you, then you might want to switch it up until you can find a diet that you can sustain. This might make you think that this means finding diets that you never need to cheat on, but that simply leads into my next key point: balance.

 The idea of cheat meals is good because it promotes flexible eating, but again, we’ve all been at a point where the cheat meal turns into a cheat day, then week, then you just give up entirely and go back to junk food. Again, you’re not alone! Everyone has been in that position. If you know the goals to your diet and you break your limits one day, you have to remember that one off day or off meal never made anyone fat. It never made anyone gain weight. What will help you lose weight is getting past this roadblock, and sticking to your diet in the long term, despite any slip-ups. This is why I say go for the nachos! If you stay away from all junk food for too long while still craving it, your cravings might eventually take over and just ruin the diet as a whole. This is a lot worse than making just one mistake that you forget about and correct.

The truth of dieting isn’t as glamorous as it seems.  It will go slower than you want it to. You will get frustrated. You will feel like it isn’t working. But if you stay on track in the long term rather than letting a mistake set you back, and if you make sure your diet is sustainable and has balance, you will succeed. And that is a promise.
